1. Certification and Qualifications- Seaman Book: Valid Seaman's Book and all necessary STCW certifications (Basic Safety, Security Awareness, etc.).
- Ro-Ro Specific Training: Preference will be given to candidates with experience or certification in Cargo Securing and Handling on Ro-Ro decks.
- Medical: Valid medical fitness certificate (compliant with flag state requirements).
2. Professional Experience
- Minimum of 2-3 years of proven experience sailing as a Bosun or Able Seaman (AB) on large Ro-Ro, PCC (Pure Car Carrier), or PCTC (Pure Car and Truck Carrier) vessels.
- Demonstrated experience in leading and supervising a multi-national deck crew of at least 3-5 ratings.
- Familiarity with the specific challenges of maintaining large vehicle decks and ramp systems.
3. Key Technical Skills
- Deck Maintenance: Expert knowledge of painting, chipping, cleaning, rope splicing, and general upkeep of the hull, superstructure, and mooring equipment.
- Mooring Operations: Highly skilled in supervising all mooring, unmooring, and anchoring operations in various port conditions.
- Cargo Securing: Proficient in the proper use of lashing equipment, chains, and securing procedures for different types of vehicles and heavy cargo on Ro-Ro decks.
Safety & Equipment: Competency in handling life-saving and firefighting appliances (LSA/FFA) and implementing Permit-to-Work procedures.
- Bridge Watchkeeping: Ability to perform lookout duties and steerage as required.
4. Personal Attributes
- Leadership: Strong organizational and leadership skills with the ability to clearly delegate tasks and enforce safety standards.
- Language: Good working knowledge of the English language (verbal and written) is essential for communication and safety instructions.
