1. Education and Certification- Mandatory: Must hold a Chief Engineer or Master Mariner Certificate of Competency (CoC) (STCW II/2 or III/2), with significant sea-going experience in a senior rank (e.g., Chief Engineer or Master).
- Preferred: A relevant Bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, or a related field.
2. Professional Experience
- A minimum of 2-3 years of shore-based experience as a Superintendent (Technical, Marine, or QHSE).
- Proven track record of at least 5 years of sailing experience on [Specify Vessel Type, e.g., chemical tankers, large container ships].
- Demonstrable expertise in managing complex dry-docking projects and vessel repairs within budget and schedule.
3. Technical and Operational Expertise
- Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of vessel machinery, propulsion systems, hull maintenance, and statutory regulations. (For Marine Superintendent: Expertise in navigation, cargo handling, and vetting/audits.)
- Compliance: Comprehensive knowledge of ISM, ISPS, SOLAS, MARPOL, and other relevant international conventions and classification society rules.
- Budget Management: Ability to prepare, monitor, and control operational and repair budgets effectively.
4. Essential Skills and Attributes
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (required for reports, correspondence, and external stakeholder liaison).
- Leadership & Management: Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage, mentor, and motivate ship staff remotely and during vessel visits.
- Travel: Willingness and ability to travel globally extensively (often at short notice) to attend vessels, shipyards, and meetings.
- Software Proficiency: Competency in using Planned Maintenance Systems (PMS) and general office software (MS Office Suite).
